Hi, I’m Ryan Adams. I’m the owner of Rhino Shield here in Jacksonville. We’ve been servicing all of North Florida for the last 20+ years, offering our exclusive 25-year no chip, crack, or peel transferable warranty. I’m going to show you why our meticulous process is just as important as our superior product.
Step One – Thorough Inspection
A Rhino Shield representative will walk around and inspect your home. We note any areas needing special attention, including making an inventory of any wood that needs to be replaced, stucco needing repair, etc. A production plan is then developed that includes the estimated time to complete the project, the amount of labor required, and if any special equipment (such as a lift or scaffolding) is necessary.
Step Two – Cleaning and Washing
All jobs start with a thorough cleaning, almost always including a pressure wash. The installation team takes proper care to maintain the look and feel of your home’s exterior. A clean, dry surface free of dust, oils, mildew spores, algae, and surface chalking ensures optimal Rhino Shield adhesion.
Step Three – Patching and Repair
Depending on the extent of any wall damage, we repair or replace all damaged areas. This includes wood replacement, patching, and stucco repair. Our goal is to bring the surface back to its original condition—both for cosmetic reasons and for coating installation.
Step Four – Scraping
On wood homes, all loose paint and debris must be removed. Easily removed paint may be sanded and scraped by the crew. Other forms of paint removal, such as chemical or mechanical stripping, are rarely necessary. The ultimate goal is a bondable surface for both primer and ceramic finish coats.
Step Five – Caulking
Caulking is an important part of any successful coating installation. Using a high-quality acrylic elastomeric caulk (not silicone), Rhino Shield crews seal small surface cracks, vertical joints, and horizontal seams around doors and windows to reduce moisture intrusion. Old, split, or cracked caulk will be removed at this time.
Step Six – Masking
Areas not being coated may be masked off, covered, or temporarily removed. Typical items removed include light fixtures, signs, downspouts, window shutters, and mailboxes. Special attention is given to covering areas like roofing, landscaping, lawns, decks, and other areas prone to windborne spray.
Step Seven – Priming
The installation team will do a full-area prime (not spot priming) to seal, improve water resistance, and provide a bonding agent for the ceramic finish coat. The primer sealer is white in color but may dry to a clear finish depending on the Rhino Shield system used.
Step Eight – Finish Coat Application
Now the surface is ready for the ceramic finish coat. The finish coat is sprayed at a high mill thickness—about 100 sq. ft. per gallon—to provide ultimate wall protection. Some areas, especially porous sections, may require brushing or back-rolling. The ceramic coat can be tinted to almost any color.
Step Nine – Detailed Touch-Up
After the finish coat is applied, we touch up highly detailed or tight spaces to make them look their best.
Step Ten – Clean-Up
The installation team strives to leave each job site as it was upon arrival. All masking and coverings will be removed, fixtures replaced, and leftover debris discarded.
Step Eleven – Final Inspection
Once the project is complete, you will review your Rhino Shield installation with the crew chief for final sign-off. Any remaining issues are addressed at this time. Our work is not 100% complete until you are fully satisfied with your Rhino Shield application.
After completing all of these steps, you’ll be emailed your 25-year no chip, crack, or peel warranty—giving you peace of mind knowing Rhino Shield has your back. You can enjoy your beautifully durable coating for a long, long time.
